According to a new report, Apple Inc, new iPhone will feature a quad-core processor based on the architecture of Exynos 4 of Samsung.
DigiTimes.com citing its industry sources issued this report on Thursday. The rumored processors clock speed or its graphics capabilities werenât included in the report.
The current iPhone 4S has a dual core processor which runs at 800 MHz, called the âA5â. The iPad 2 has the same chip but it performed a bit faster at 1GHz because of its bigger form and a larger battery.
When the latest iPad 3 with a new chip was revealed this year, Apple instead of unveiling its next generation of processors, it just named its new processor the âA5Xâ. Apple said that itâs a major upgrade over its predecessors. That CPUâs design was based on Samsungâs low power 45 nm, which is the same CPU found in the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
A5X main upgrade was the new integrated GPU. The main processor remained dual core but the GPU was boosted to quad core version so that it can service the 3.1 million pixels of the iPad 3âs high resolution Retina display. If Apple did upgrade its next iPhoneâs quad core CPU, it will easily earn the distinction the âA6â. This will heat up the iPhoneâs competition in the market where smartphones with quad core chips are already available.
Smartphone titans such as Samsung, HTC, LG and even little known Meizu has all introduced smartphone with quad core processor in Q2 this year. Among them is the most notable Samsung Galaxy S III with Android OS, which is dubbed as the latest flagship of the company
